Hugo trailed his feet through the marhsy ground, a valley coursing between two tall hills. The boy didn't know he had gotten here, but he felt an odd comfort. This virtual world, even if it was a prison to some, it was a sort of the new place to begin with. He felt like he didn't fitwith the others. They missed home. He was happy, he wanted to remain here. Such a special place. He didn't want to be suddenly woken up by a gang of FBI agents and be taken home to the cruel people who he was supposed to call parents.

His mother. At home, she ignored him, drank, generaly didn't give a damn. At night she left and came home by dawn. His father. The old man sold cars, of course, he scammed all of his customers. They moved often. Of course, they wren't his real parents. His true parents had died. No other relatives to take care of him, he had been place for adoption, and Hugo couldn't tell why they had adpoted him. Maybe they had been different at first, and maybe he should've stayed snd hope they would get better. But hope, when it's too much, it's like a drug. A lie. A cruel delusion. And soon Hugo gave up on their decaying souls.

Hugo's boots splattered through a thin trickle of water, getting diry with each step through the swamp. The steep hills made it hard for the boy to walk anywhere but in the way of the small stream. The sky was painted gray, blending with his clothes. He felt like a ghost, but in a good way. Peole were looking at him weirdly. They had been there a some time before him, and they were disgusted of the man who had brought him there, but Hugo was happy to be somewhere else, somewhere whee they didn't call him "whoreson". And maybe he needed to be a ghost for a bit, to lay low. If peole found out that he wanted to be here things might get ugly.

A step splashed behind him. In a quick motion, with a swiftness he had never knew he had, the boy turned to his back, spinning on his heel. He unsheated his spear and pointed it at another player. The tip was pointed barely a few inches from their chest.

Once again, Emilia found herself at a place she was not entirely expecting... or supposed to be at. Ever since she arrived in this damn place, nothing seemed to ever work out for her. The fifteen year old managed to find out details about this place already, and none that she liked. She was missing home more than ever, wondered what her parents have done by now or if any of her friends miss her. But Emilia was a realist and opportunist all in one. There was no way back home, so the girl would make the most out of her stay in this world (as she'd come to think of it as).

And now, she had taken the wrong turn and ended up here - a wasteland of eternal night. Each step into the bog was draining her. Emilia blamed her garbage stats, blamed the world for generating her. She felt as useless as she actually was and now even more so that she was lost. As the slender girl turned yet another corner around foliage, she spotted another being. Thinking it her salvation, she approached the figure as fast as she could. Perhaps she had been too optimistic as the fifteen year old had to suddenly stop - she really wasn't into impalings.

"Woah, woah, calm please," Emilia bemoaned as she raised her arms in surrender. Kids here were entirely to high-strung in her opinion. Though it was hardly a fair thought, it was still true. They all had a reason to be cautious, some more than others - she just happened to have less of it. "I need your help, actually," Emilia added with a serene voice, trying to be calm. She merely hoped whoever this stranger was would be kind enough to even just point her the way back to town.

Hugo examined the girl without taking the point of his weapon away from her chest. She looked like a mage, with light robes and all, and that was confirmed by the sing accompanying the floating nametag above her head. Emilia, as the nametag suggested she was named, looked harmless, and after a few moments, the lancer frowned and sheathed his weapon. He crossed his hands over his chest.

Was this girl asking for his help? Hugo didn't know what she would want, and little did he care, but hung around nonetheless. If he would have been a jerk, he might have just teleported away without a second glance, having his silece disturbed by a tiny mage.

"Yeah? What is it?" she asked, tapping his finger on his arm as he waited for Emilia to speak. He yawed and hastily moved his attention to stare at the gray sky, the gray hills, the gray thin stream that coursed at his feet. Everything in the Hills seemed gray, including him in his long, gray coat.

The male still eyed her with cautious even as he lowered his weapon. Now that she had a closer look, the girl glanced up above his head, a usual place to see. The letters above the boy's head confirmed her suspicions that he, too, was like her and that his name was Hugo. 'Interesting, she thought to herself, amused. It always fascinated her that the regards for greeting a new person were practically thrown out the window in this place, especially when on can just look up and see information. Such a powerful thing. Her attention was returned to the situation on hand when she felt the pressure against her chest life as Hugo sheathed his lance.

"Thanks for that, I'm Emilia by the way,", the young girl casually commented as she dusted the imaginary dirt off her robes. She could tell this one wasn't one for small talk, but Emilia had manners and even if she was in trouble in a new world, she would still upkeep her habits. It didn't matter to her that she was shrugged off gruffly, only that she not return the gesture. The male spoke, impatience showing. The young girl only grinned, resisting the urge to be obnoxious.

"I need to find the way back to the entrance so I can find the tree by the statue with the third eye," she replied flatly, getting to the point as soon as she can. Sure, she could have just magicked her way out but there was no fun in that. Plus, Emilia had already tried finding what she needed and still got lost somehow. She wasn't a strong fighter - had not even been in a battle once, and she figured that many bodies would make lighter work. "If you can please render any assistance, it would be much appreciated," she concluded her plight, thought for a second then added, "Sir."

Hugo arched and eyebrow as he studied the girl's speech. She spoke oddly respectful, and he resisted the urge to laugh a bit. 'Huh, I haven't been treated with respect for a while now.' he thought, amused, but said nothing to Emilia. She wasn't a threat, he could tell fully now, and he decided to trust her. Maybe they could exchange some information or she would proove to be a good partner in battle. He couldn't count on that, since he saw her as a pretty weak and new mage.

"So why aren't you teleporting out of here? Do you really want to try and get out of this labyrinthic bog?" he asked, appreciating the way he towered above her. She was pretty direct, even so, and he appreciated she hadn't started wasting his time with pleasantries. The black-haired boy began searching for pockets to put his hands into. His coat seemed to lack these, so he shrugged and let his arms hang simply by his body.

"Okay so you are trying to get to Roslare or what?" he asked her. Hugo hadn't really understood her odd direction, but he guessed she was reffering to the main city as the entrance, and whether the statue was the one in the fountain square or the marketplace was a whole other story.

The boy's expression told her multitudes. He saw her as weak, a non-threat. As annoyed as she was at that assessment, Emilia felt that it was a just one. She wasn't a magically inclined mage, hell she didn't even know why she was chosen to be that class in the first place. Nonetheless, Emilia worked with what she got, no matter how garbage it was. It was her way, to take advantage of any situation she was given. If the boy was giving her his attention and not shrugging her off, so be it - it was the best she was hoping for.

The obvious solution to her problem was stated by the male. Of course. It wasn't like she hadn't thought about just doing that. But it would defeat the purpose of her adventure, not that she was going to divulge such information. "Hm, nothing wrong with going on foot. Where's your sense of adventure? You're literally in a new world with tons of shit to do," Emilia retorted with a grin, watching with amusement as the boy stood awkwardly. The fifteen year old stood her ground, despite being a head shorter than Hugo, and crossed her arms as she looked him in the eye. "I'm not about getting out the easy way because I can."

It wasn't a challenge issued to the boy, but in hindsight, it certainly seemed like it. She calmed down a little, easily excited but her little tirade. Emilia remembered that she would rather not be adventuring alone, despite her earlier words. "No no, I've been given those instructions, confusing as they are," the fifteen year old simply replied, trying to be clear despite the unclear direction she was given. "I'm assuming I just really need to find any hint of big statues and I should be fine. Do you know of any around here? Will you help?"

Hugo sighed, trying to think of the way out of the bog. He hadn't thought much, truthfully, of how he was going to get back home after his wondering through the hills. Maybe if they'd get to higher ground, they could look for signs of anything but endless night and gray skies beyond the valley. He looked up and around himself, searching for a hill that would pose more handholds. Most of them were baren and steep, so naturally he had been forced to walk through the course of the murky water that continued to flow around his feet.

"And just so you know, I've done enough cool shit in real life." he shot back as he walked towards a side of the valley, until he reached what seemed like the singular patch of dark-leaves trees that rested on the side of the hill. Hugo pictured that the trunks and branches were a rare opportunity to climb out of the maze, and acted accordingly. He looked back at Emilia, motioning her to come as well.

"You wanna get out of here, first thing you need to do, search from above. Obviously." he informed her then grabbed firmly on a stronger-looking trunk and swung himself upwards until he managed to catch onto another trunk. The bark scrapped and remained on his palms, dark and odd-smelling. No matter how much he tried to brush it off, some of it was always still there. His spear was light enough that he did not feel encumbered by its weight. He peeked back over his shoulder as he managed to grab onto a trunk and fount space at its roots to pause in a vertical position. His ballance was precarious, and he always held one of his arms around the tree, as if he were hugging it. "Need help?" Hugo asked the mage girl as he waited for her to climb further so they could continue.

Emilia bowed her head, bangs covering her sparkling eyes. 'Got'em,' she thought to herself, amused and feeling slightly victorious. Even though she figured that Hugo was a generally kind soul (considering the fact that he'd dropped whatever he was doing to help her out), the fifteen year old still couldn't help but feel proud of getting some help. She paused for a moment, wondering about such things - she was not used to having to get help nor receiving it - possibly why she felt how she did. The young woman followed the boy with her eyes. True, the bog was no sanctuary except to the forsaken but it was a challenge she intended to conquer. Closing her eyes and taking a deep breath, Emilia could feel the world around her moving, alive. It was truly a wonderfully terrifying world.

She opened her eyes as Hugo spoke and she turned to him, a grin on her lips. "Oh yeah?" Emilia acknowledged his statement as one eyebrow rose in a disbelieving expression. "What kind of cool shit did you do?" the dark haired girl continued with a query that came from her curiousity and need to challenge. Waiting for the boy to respond, Emilia followed him closely, having no trouble at all following the boy. He was smart, this Hugo, and Emilia was glad to have found it. Sure, she probably could have come to the same conclusion but it was definitely much better with company. The fifteen year old nodded at Hugo as she observed him climbing higher up. Not an easy task but it was one she could manage. Emilia was ready to follow the boy when he spoke to her. She merely grinned in reply.

"Please, I'm stronger than I look," she casually replied as her hands grasped the branches. With as much grace as she could afford to, she lifted her body off the ground and started her ascent. She wasn't the fastest, nor the best spell caster, but by gods she was strong - a fact that she found out earlier on. A grab here, a pull there and within time, Emilia was perched right beside the boy. She stood on a branch slightly higher than Hugo now, and looked out into the nothingness that was the bog. It was exhilirating at high altitudes, despite the situation. Crouching down toward Hugo, she spoke with confidence, "I think we need to go a little higher, I'm a little sick of seeing just foliage."

Hugo shrugged as she asked him back. He had done a lot of... slightly bad things back in reality. He covered his mouth to hide the way he pressed his lips in anxiousness, and didn't answer to her question. It wasn't her bussiness to know, anyway, and the lancer was going to keep his information to himself if he had no wish to share it. Sitting there on the branch he watched her advance and soon get up besides him, looking triumphant. She was right, though, even the folliage was suffocating, maybe even more than the all-gray bog, and the boy looked up towards what they had left of the hill. They had crossed the middle line, but as they neared the top the trees got frailer and rarer than down bellow. It was a botanical mystery, judging by the fact that what he knew well of nature thrived on light and fresh air. But here there was no light nor fresh air, and the trees were themselves out of place.

"You're right, let's get going." he muttered back and from the spot he had been resting on, he launched himself and manged to grip onto another branch, which hung towards the ground so low that he was afraid it would break. Luckily, Hugo perched his feet on the ground soon and the branch was against resting slightly normal. From there he monkeyed his way gripped to various trees and geting his face and palms both stained with them awful black bits that wouldn't let go.
