A shadow stumbled through the dim-lighted hallway of the small apartment at 5 AM in the morning. The tall figure, a boy wearing glasses, paused in the kitchen where he prepared coffee. Fingers drumming on the coffee machine as it hurled and groaned. A steaming cup awaited him. It tasted bitter, but that was how he liked it best. He dragged his feet back through the hall, quietly passing by the door of his roommate.

He paused, staring into his cup, then at the white wooden door, then back into the darkness of his coffee. Liam wondered whether he had woken Avery up by any chance. He would hate to, but she wouldn't mind, anyway. They had been together for almost on full year, since they had both rocked universities. He was following medicine, she followed engineering. On day they had made a promise to create something knew, unique, with their work. Now he didn't know if he wanted to wake up in the morning anymore.

The boy returned to the desk in his bedroom. A rented apartment didn't provide much, and his room was small, barely any space between his bed, desk and wardrobe. Barely awake, he sat down in his chair and set his cup on the table. Papers scattered on the surface, ladden with his usual untidy writting. An essay for class. Liam struggled to remember from where he had left off, while also opening his computer. 'Something, something...' he brushed his forehead with one hand. The lamp on his desk made his head hurt with its violent, hot light.

Liam yawned, checking his email before he began writing for his project. He had recieved some spam from a cosmetics' company, an email from his mom... Oh yeah, his birthday was coming up. His days had all seemed so similar, that he began thinking it was just one day looping eternally until he would put an end to it. He passed his eyes over it and didn't bother to reply, not now. He had no muse to seem enthusiastic about something so unimportant. Then his eyes landed on the most recent message he had recieved.

Liam sipped from his coffee until the last drop. His heart was beating fast with excitement. MoTHER had not given any sort of details about their work, but he was intrigued by their message and thus wanted to find out more. It hadn't been months since he had been so interested about something. He set his cup down, contemplating over the best answer. In a few minutes, he got typing.

It wasn't often that Avery was awake before the sun rose. Her second year of university was proving to be a little bit of a challenge, one that she could handle (of course) but it was a challenge nonetheless. Sleep was not a commodity she could freely afford and she only managed to get the bare minimum of it on a daily basis. So when her eyes opened, she was surprised that there was still darkness surrounding the bedroom when she had expected a slit of sunlight to be seen where the curtains didn't quite meet. The young woman contemplated on closing her eyes again and returning to sleep, but as she turned over and swung her arm, Avery noticed that there was quite a noticeable lump missing from the bed. She blinked once, twice, then turned her head slightly to see the time. 5:12 AM - Wednesday. Then she realized that something was off. There wasn't a clock in her bedroom where she had looked. Did she- The young woman groaned, she hated passing out on Liam's bed by accident. It was entirely too early but she was unsurprised that her roomate slash boyfriend had already risen.

The dark haired woman listened carefully, hearing the vigorous tapping of the keyboard. With a deep breath, the nineteen year old gathered the energy to turn her body around. It was taxing, considering she was a bit of a lazy bone quite early in the morning. The bright light from the lamp made her eyes burn but it only served to wake her up more. Luckily for her, she had no classes for the day and only had work in the afternoon. Yawning, Avery curled the covers away from herself and rose from the bed, feeling the need to use the toilet now that she was awake and aware enough to notice the urge. She was sure that Liam heard her rise but he made no movement, still typing on his computer. The woman tilted her head, usually Liam was more receptive to the changes in the environment, so Avery thought something must have him fired up. Or perhaps he had forgotten that she had passed out on his bed and thought he was alone. A devious thought snuck into her head.

She slowly creeped toward the man, intending to surprise him. However, her energy was suddenly drained, perhaps due to lack of sleep or maybe it was just the coffee smelling so damn good in the morning. Avery gave up on her mission and decided to just slug over to where he was - see what caught his attention so vividly. She could see him focusing on the screen, reading a message then re-reading it, perhaps unbelieving. Could it be a research result he had wanted? Avery was curious. She breathed heavily, to alert him of her presence and to avoid making him jump. Walking up beside him, she glanced down at his work desk (a clutter like always) and absentmindedly grabbed his cup for a sip. Her face contorted as the bitterness hit - she forgot that he always liked his coffee black. She carefully placed the mug back down on the desk, her face now apologetic. She always absentmindedly did things and she was worried that he would take offense - again. Smiling at Liam, she greeted him with a good morning before jumping straight to the heart of the matter.

"What're you up to, dearest? Found a breakthrough?"

OOC: bleh, sorry, not sure what's wrong with my muse but can't seem to find words

Liam watched the screen, waited ridiculously long for a reply, but it was five in the morning and no one was up at that time. Except for himself. He wanted to take a sip from his coffee, but as his hand reached out the mug lifted itself from the desk and left him empty handed. He heard a small thud as the cup returned to the desk and he looked up from his chair to see his girlfriend, Avery. How had he gotten in there without him knowing... 'Oh, classic Avery...' he thought, bitter-sweet emotions stirring in his brain as he rolled his desk chair towards her and planted a kiss on her lips. They tasted bitter, and he figured she had been the one taking from his coffee earlier. Then he turned away and back to the emails. Reading and rereading again and again as if he couldn't believe it. His ticket out of this boring, flat life. He and Avery could move to whatever place those people wanted him to work at, get rich, and never have to worry about anythng ever again.

The student closed his email, seeing as the reply from MoTHER was not coming soon, and returned to his work, gathering all the scattered papers in a hardly neat pile, scrolling through them to find where he had left off from. There wasn't much left to do anyway, but he had to be done before it was time to leave. Nevermind Avery was still there, his head was buzzing with excitement and what he wrote in his paper was unimportant to his working mind, dreaming at the possibilities. His stomach grumbled, reminding him of the uneaten breakfast which should've given him the energy to write. The boy looked up, adjusting his glasses, then turned towards his girlfriend.

"Breakast?"
